The state has all the conditions to become a Hub or Cluster of high-tech components for electric vehicles or self-employed, due to the fact that for two years it has attracted Direct Foreign Investment from the electromobility sector, by suppliers of the shipowner Tesla, which is building a plant in Austin, Texas, told The Economist, Héctor Tijerina, Executive Director of Invest Monterrey.
“The production plant that Tesla is building in Austin is near Monterrey, it takes about six hours (by land), it is the largest Tesla plant, and that has made many suppliers of high-tech components for vehicles electrical companies, decide to establish their operations in Monterrey and import the finished product that can be in Austin the same day ”, stressed the manager.
He indicated that during the year they have attended to some Tesla suppliers who have confirmed the investment in the entity, but have kept the investment confidential.
The state has been favored, he said, that this type of supply cannot be established anywhere, because they are high-tech products and it requires a qualified and experienced workforce to be able to produce these components.
Subsidies
Regarding the policy that is proposing the government of the American Joe Biden, pro sustainability and care for the environment, to support with subsidies to US citizens so that they can buy electric vehicles, benefits Mexico and Nuevo León, he mentioned.
“The foregoing is due to the fact that in the face of greater consumption of electric vehicles in the American Union, there is a greater demand for high-tech components, and therefore large suppliers have decided to establish their operations in Nuevo León, such as the German ZF Group, a leader in mobility technology, is building a three-in-one project in Monterrey ”.
In other words, ZF is going to build a Plant of High Technology Components for Electric Vehicles, a Research and Development Center and an Administrative Center that will provide service to all its operations in North America, “this is the type of company that is seeking to attract Nuevo León ”, he emphasized.
He added that there are another couple of electromobility companies that have not yet been made public, but have already decided to settle in the state, and in the next few days they will be announced by the state Secretary of Economy, Iván Rivas Rodríguez.
“Little by little, a Hub or Cluster of high-tech companies for electric and autonomous vehicles is being formed, and that is where Nuevo León seeks to position itself as a region where these types of companies can reach and find the infrastructure and workforce they need. to be successful ”, he stressed.
During the first nine months of 2021, New Lion raised $ 2,322.7 million from IED, placing itself in second place at the country level, with a participation of 9%, after Mexico City with flows of 4,109.1 million dollars and a participation of 17%, according to data from the federal Ministry of Economy.
Héctor Tijerina commented that this year there are 100 projects in the investment portfolio of IED, mainly from the United States and China, in the automotive sector. As of the third quarter of 2021, the United States invested 1,451.4 million dollars in Nuevo León, with a 62 percent share of state FDI.
