The political party Now Nation, which has Alfonso Lopez Chau as presidential candidateachieved its registration with the National Elections Board (JNE).
According to the JNE’s Registry of Political Organizations (ROP), the political organization achieved its registration on July 24. It presents Ángel Renato Meneses Crispin and Nerya Huaira Charapaqui as legal representatives. With this, the party is now authorized to participate in the 2026 general elections.
The registration takes place just over a month after the rector of theNational University of Engineering (UNI), Alfonso Lopez-Chauannounced his intention to run in the upcoming presidential elections in 2026 with the political party Ahora Nación. The statement was made during an interview for the media La Mula, in which the highest authority of the UNI explained that, “in the current situation in Peru, it has almost become a moral obligation” to get involved in politics.

He also explained that the political organization, with which he will run for president in the elections, was created by young people in response to the violence exercised by the Government against the demonstrations at the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023. During those dates, the higher education institution he directs decided to welcome citizens from other regions who came to Lima to exercise their right to protest.
“We have had minor observations, there have been no observations to the committees or to the members. They are already resolved, so we have been talking to other groups in parallel, but […] “I can already guarantee that I would not be a candidate for surrogacy,” he said.
He also added: “I will start acting next week as a candidate for Ahora Nación and as a pre-candidate for a larger front that I want to help build. That would be the answer I can give.”

At Biden’s age, I am two years older than Trump and four years younger than the Pope. In other words, I am not yet an extraordinary case,” the politician said.
