MIAMI, United States. — Diana Meizoso, one of the survivors of the sinking in waters north of Bahía Honda (Artemisa) of a speedboat that was traveling to the United States, assured that the boat was attacked by Cuban border guards and that it was not an accident , as reported by the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) last Saturday.

In statements offered to Radio Television MartiMeizoso indicated that the boat that would take the migrants out of the country was intentionally rammed by a Coast Guard unit.

“We got on the boat and, when we got out, he (driver) slowed down because he saw himself closed on all sides, because another boat was coming. When we passed them by, he (officer) said: ‘Now I’m going to split them in half’, and then he rammed us and split it in half, “said the woman, who lost her two-year-old daughter in the Sinister.

According to the survivor, the boat that would take the migrants out ended up almost destroyed due to the impacts.

“It broke, yes, I saw the pieces of the boat, and I lost consciousness from the blow that hit me on the head, and that was when I lost my girl in my arms, and the wave threw me onto a piece of the boat. And that’s when I reacted and started yelling at my brother, that my girl where was she, “she said.

Meizoso also spoke about the poor reaction of the border guards to the sinking of the boat.

“They threw the lifesavers because we asked them to. They didn’t really help us. We had to cry out for them to help us, ”adds the testimony.

The official note, released by official Cuban media, states that 18 people were rescued, as well as the bodies of five deceased, including the daughter of Diana Meizoso.
