This Monday, the Minister of the Interior, Nicolás Martinelli, is questioned by the Frente Amplio in the Chamber of Deputies. The summons, promoted by the opposition, seeks to clarify the situation in the prison system after several recent serious events. The questioner is the Broad Front representative Bettiana Díaz.

The main focus of the interpellation will be the intentional fire in the Santiago Vázquez prison (formerly Comcar) that occurred at the end of September, which resulted in the death of six inmates. This event was a repetition of the fire recorded in December of last year, when six other prisoners died in the same module 4 of the prison. Both incidents have generated strong criticism of the management of the prison system.

In addition, the interpellation will include complaints about the situation in the Punta de Rieles prison, where children have allegedly visited people detained for sexual crimes. This aspect is one of the points to which Díaz will demand answers during the session.
