The president of the Senate, Olga Sánchez Cordero, informed that she received the notification from the Guadalajara Regional Chamber, of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF), in which it is resolved that the reinstatement of Jaime Bonilla Valdez to the position is without effect of senator.

In a message on her social networks, the retired minister and legislator from Morena wrote yesterday afternoon: “We just received, a few moments ago, the notification from the Guadalajara Regional Chamber of the @TEPJF_ where it resolves that the reincorporation of Jaime Bonilla to the position of senator of the Republic is without effect”.

Sánchez Cordero stated that in compliance with the resolution I will report to the plenary session and to the governing bodies for the corresponding purposes, regardless of the appeal that Senator Bonilla legally filed regarding this ruling..

Bonilla requested leave of absence from his legislative functions, for an indefinite period of time, as of December 6, 2018, to participate in the electoral contest for the governorship of Baja California. He served in state office from November 1, 2019 to October 31, 2021.

A few months have passed since the end of his term and in the session of March 29, the presidency of the board of directors reported that Bonilla had rejoined his legislative activities as of March 25, 2022.

With the notification of the TEPJF, the Senate must call the substitute senator, the morenista Gerardo Osuna.

The magistrates determined that Bonilla, by swearing in as state president, opted for this popularly elected position and exhausted his right to choose both. However, Bonilla filed an appeal for reconsideration.
