The Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, spoke out against the attack carried out by the United States on Venezuela, a country that borders the Brazilian state of Roraima. “Nothing justifies conflicts ending in bombings,” he said on his profile on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
“War kills civilians, destroys health services, impedes care for people. When it happens in a neighboring country, the impact is multiple for our people and health system”, he added.
Padilha then recalled that the Ministry of Health and the Unified Health System (SUS) of Roraima were already absorbing the impacts of the situation in the neighboring country, even before this attack.
Suspended funds
“Investments [do Brasil] they became even bigger after the US suspended funding that supported Operation Acolhida”, he mentioned.
The Ministry of Health has since expanded investments and professionals in the city and in the indigenous area, via the SUS Agency.
“Since the beginning of military operations around the neighboring country, we have prepared our SUS Agency, the SUS National Force and our Indigenous Health teams to reduce, as much as possible, the impacts of the conflict on health and the Brazilian SUS”, wrote the minister. And he concluded: “May PEACE come! In the meantime, we will take care of those who need to be taken care of, on Brazilian soil.”
