I saw that the youngest son of the president was a trend on social networks over the weekend, I thought all the time about whether to give an opinion or not, and clearly not using his name, because doing so, even if it is for the good, helps to keep alive an embarrassing trend.
There are no midpoints in this, simply no, they do not open their mouths or write or tweet to criticize or judge a minor, be it the son of the president or the neighbor. An adult is not physically harassed, much less a minor. Minors deserve protection from the swamp of shit that we human beings are on social networks, and a serious debate is urgently needed in this regard. And it is not enough to “prohibit” them from seeing what is said about them on networks, because, in the first part, they end up doubly punished, it is more than certain that the memes and comments that are made about them, receive them directly from their “friends”. ” through WhatsApp in a “solidarity” gesture so that they know what is happening, and surely in other cases, nothing more to scrub.
It is urgent that social network companies find a clear way to protect minors, far beyond establishing the limits of use, and that this does not come from the state, because it always ends up being distorted. Finally, the State can create communication campaigns against harassment, and this would have to start from the highest podium of power, which, by the way, seems impossible.
The Mexican State has failed in its obligation to protect children, it is a historical fact, which has also increased in the last administration. The first blow came with the cancellation of the Children’s Homes program, under the usual argument: corruption, a program that guaranteed that resources were used so that the little ones had a guaranteed place for their development was erased with a stroke of the pen, while their mothers could enter the labor market. It is true, the program did not end, but the resources for each minor were reduced, and by delivering the direct money, the government gave up protecting the most vulnerable.
The dismantling of the educational reform ended with the National Institute for Educational Evaluation (INEE), which took away from us an institution and a very valuable tool to be able to measure the performance of the different educational policies, to know if children learn more and better and understand where they have to press so that they have everything they need to face a globalized future. There is not, today education is ideologically kidnapped, so far from reality that it was enough to listen to the sad testimonies of teachers when they decided that they would remove the Full Time Schools program. Not only did they give them more hours of school protection, they also guaranteed what would perhaps be the only food a day for these children. The program is still hanging by a thread. Under the same argument, that of corruption, the resources destined for educational infrastructure, also began to be delivered directly to parents, the government, once again renounced its responsibility that what was built would guarantee the safety of minors. Now the money is distributed, and verifying who made it, with what standards, if it was used correctly or not is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
It goes without saying that children have been the hardest hit by the shortage of cancer drugs, that their parents have been ignored hundreds of times, and even delegitimized from power, as if demanding an obligation from the state were a movement opposition politician. It is also worth remembering that until this week, Mexico was the only country on the continent that had not vaccinated minors between 5 and 11 years of age against Covid19. Civil society organizations that deal with children’s issues are going through the darkest of times, because like never before, the government has decided to stop listening to them.
Issues such as child trafficking, teenage pregnancy and child pornography are not on the agenda of power. Delfina Gómez never responded to the scandalous report that revealed a network of child trafficking in the country’s schools.
Those who criticize the underage son of the president deserve a piece in hell. Those responsible for what has been done to all childhoods in this six-year term deserve a space in prison.
