“They kept saying that Claudia Sheinbaum was moderate, but with these actions she demonstrates her authoritarian nature, not even López Obrador dared to do so much,” said the former presidential champion.
Gálvez had not appeared on the political scene since June 19, just within the framework of the initial discussion of judicial reform; At that time, the PAN member expressed her hope that Sheinbaum would listen to the opposition and not support these constitutional changes.
After Morena legislators presented a reform initiative on Tuesday to make the constitutional reforms unchallengeable, Gálvez warned that the withdrawal of the proposal to also modify article 1 of the Constitution – a change that was part of the original initiative, but that today was eliminated – is not enough and the entire proposal should be withdrawn.
In his recording, Gálvez raises the seriousness of the proposal with a warning: “Imagine that they prohibit the religion you profess, imagine that they approve the death penalty against their opponents. Imagine that the president of the Republic can be re-elected as many times as he wants,” he expressed.
“This is how absurd and authoritarian the initiative that Morena proposed in the Senate to prevent the reform of the Judiciary from being reviewed. In short, they do not want anyone to challenge a constitutional reform before the Supreme Court of Justice, even if it is as absurd as the cases that I mentioned to you,” said the former legislator.
The withdrawal of a part of the proposal, Gálvez emphasized, is “tole with the finger.”
“Let’s demand that she withdraw completely, let’s speak with the truth: they kept saying that Claudia Sheinbaum was moderate, but with these actions she demonstrates her authoritarian nature, not even López Obrador dared to do so,” he concluded in his message.
