The Norwegian Peace Movement rejected this Tuesday from Oslo the award of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to the Venezuelan extreme right agent, María Corina Machado, who maintains an agenda that promotes war, the invasion of her country and has openly defended the genocide that Israel commits against the Palestinian people, contradicting the founding statutes.
When holding a press conference in the city of Oslo, Norway, spokespersons for the Peace Movement expressed their discontent, stating that the committee “is stealing money that belongs to the peace movement.”
They stressed that Alfred Nobel conceived the prize to honor the person who would do “the greatest work to prevent wars and to foster the peace process,” a vision they say has been consistently ignored.
In this sense, Norwegian peace organizations are mobilizing in Oslo to reject the awarding of the award to María Corina Machado and are planning to hold a mobilization at 5:00 in the afternoon in the Nordic country to repudiate the visit of the extremist opponent.
Similarly, the Norwegian Peace Movement recalled that figures such as Theodore Roosevelt, to whom the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded, applied his Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine (1904), when justifying future interventions in the Caribbean, including the Republic of Cuba.
Likewise, they indicated that Henry Kissinger received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 and was one of the masterminds in the coup d’état against Salvador Allende in Chile. “We must point out that after Roosevelt and Kissinger three other presidents related to the State of Israel received the Nobel Peace Prize and now it reaches María Corina Machado.”
The Norwegian Peace Movement warns that María Corina Machado is a figure who is related to the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who has an international arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
“María Corina Machado is a person who supports the Monroe Doctrine in which the United States gains the exclusive right to exploit the natural resources of Latin America. Furthermore, since her participation in the coup d’état against Hugo Chávez in 2002, Machado has wanted to hand over oil reserves to the United States,” the Movement noted.
Finally, the Norwegian Peace Movement stressed that María Corina Machado has been a promoter of the Unilateral Coercive Measures imposed by the United States and the European Union (EU) against Venezuela. They noted that “María Corina Machado advocates bloodshed by the United States war machine and has taken away credibility from the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway.”
