Normality announced for next week in distribution of liquefied gas in Cuba

The marked deficit in the production and distribution of gas liquefied in Cuba could have a possible solution next week with the arrival of a ship loaded with that fuelreported this Monday directors of the Cuba Petroleum Union (Cupet).

Lidia Rodríguez, marketing director of that company, explained that the ship will arrive at the port of Santiago de Cuba to carry out the first unloading there, according to a report on national television. reviewed by the Prensa Latina (PL) agency.

The official explained that the boat will then go to other territories to end its journey in Havana, which will ensure normality for the distribution service of this fuel for domestic use, especially for cooking food.

He added that as of the arrival of the product, the filling plants and points of sale will be activated in the territories with extended hours, and that it will be sold while there are stocks.

He declared that it is planned to support the distribution with human and logistic resources to achieve the greatest effectiveness and the level of sales in the first days, including weekends.

Likewise, he reiterated the information given in previous days by the authorities of the Ministry of Energy and Mines about the existence in Cuba of very low levels of refinable crudes, and again rule out that the island had the capacity in the midst of the current crisis to export productions of gasoline.

After long days of visible shortages, the Cuban government reported at the beginning of last week that fuel distribution and marketing problems will continue, at least until May, and attributed the situation mainly to the “non-compliance” of the suppliers.

Faced with this scenario, the authorities announced a group of measures to avoid total shortages, such as restrictions on the quantities for the sale of gasoline and diesel to owners of private vehicles and non-prioritized state vehicles.

The long lines at gas stations have been maintained throughout the country, and the shortage has resulted in a notable decrease in public transport, price increases for private transporters, and the forced adaptation of part of life’s activities social and economic.

This weekend five Cuban universities announced that between April 24 and 28 their students would take classes virtually due to the impact of the fuel crisis that has been going on for weeks.

According to the released notes, the modification in the planning of teaching activities would be in force in these centers during the energy contingency period that the country presents.
