During the debate on whether transportation in Lima and Callao should be declared in emergency for 60 days, there was a tense moment in Congress, after Norma Yarrow attacked Kelly Portalatino, after she questioned the management of Rafael López Aliaga and The congresswoman from Renovación Popular stated that her colleague does not know means of transportation, since she only got on a donkey.
It all started when Portalatino criticized the donation of trains that López Aliaga received and pointed out that receiving the wagons, which are more than 40 years old, would be a prejudice for Peruvians due to the large sum of money that their maintenance would cost.
“With this presidential motion, we intend to generate environmental protection, but what can we expect from an authority, when he stated that Lima would be a world power. Where today it has been able to acquire 40-year-old trains and wagons, which are themselves going to generate pollution. Why do you have to give that information?“, held.
After the intervention of other legislators, Yarrow addressed the Peru Libre congresswoman after questioning the role of the Urban Transportation Authority (ATU).
“Ignorance is really very daring, (…) Let’s not say atrocities and that, gentlemen, because Mrs. Portalatino is talking about the train. The train is a donation that, thank you, is now being received, and they are cars with locomotives that run on diesel and work electrically. He has never been on anything other than a donkey. But you have to understand and you have to know what a good donation is for this country. That’s why I say, ignorance is daring, when you don’t know what the country needs.”, he stated.
For her part, parliamentarian Norma Yarrow, in statements to the press, ruled out that her phrase against legislator Kelly Portalatino had been discriminatory.
“There is nothing discriminatory. The thing is that you also have to be very discriminatory because of the way she attacks, by saying that they bring junk trains. If it bothers you, I apologize, but I get on the donkey and I don’t feel bad at all, I’m happy, they are beautiful“, held.
