The President of the Republic, Iván Duque, ruled out that the presidential elections scheduled for next Sunday, May 29, will be postponed.
The president responded in this way to the rumors that have been appearing during the last hours and that were issued by the candidate Gustavo Petro.
“Please, please, we have some of the oldest democracies in Latin America, strong and solid institutions. Nobody here can imagine that the elections are going to be suspended or that there are going to be coups d’etateither. I am and have been a democrat, I have denounced dictators like Nicolás Maduro, that is why I have also always denounced the dictatorial whims of Hugo Chávez, so here we clearly have a vibrant democracy and we are going to see elections next week where all the Colombian people have to go out and vote and vote well”.

On Saturday, the Minister of the Interior, Daniel Palacio, also denied that the elections were going to be postponed. Duque arrived in Davos to participate in the World Economic Forum, but he also talks about the supposed suspension of the elections.
“We come to the World Economic Forum, among other things we are going to present the biodiversity strategy that we have worked on with the World Economic Forum, where with other cities on the planet we are defining an entire agenda of public-private intervention for the issues of clean mobility, emission reduction, protection of green areas, the fight against deforestation, watershed management,” he said.
He also indicated that “we are going to be meeting with many business leaders of companies that want to bring investment to Colombia and to seek to bring together investments that North American companies had in Asia; in Latin America, they are seeing Colombia as a place of destination and outside of that we will also have several meetings with heads of state to talk about agreements to dismantle double taxation and to continue promoting foreign investment in Colombia, in matters as important as renewable energies and something that Colombia is also taking possession of, which are the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution”.
