No tax on sugary drinks and cell phone plans would be proposed

Luis Carlos Reyes, director of the Directorate of National Taxes and Customs (Dian) appointed by the president-elect, Gustavo Petro, announced that The implementation of taxes on sugary drinks and cell phone plans would not be proposed.

Contrary to what the Ministers of Health, Carolina Corcho, and Culture, Patricia Ariza, had mentioned, Reyes said that they will discuss “all the possibilities that are on the table, always keeping in mind that the working class person should not be charged one more peso in taxes.”

Regarding the measure of cell phones, he explained that “it was a suggestion that was being discussed at a time that was thought to be much more private, but it is not a measure that we are contemplating.”
