No results: CNE website remains down since Elvis Amoroso's announcement

As of Monday afternoon, July 29, the National Electoral Council’s website was down, so the final results for each of the polling stations across the country had not been known. This situation increases doubts about the CNE’s announcement that Nicolás Maduro is the winner.

The website of the National Electoral Council (CNE) has been down for several hours after the presidential elections on Sunday, July 28. As of the publication of this note at 2:43 pm, there was still no access to the portal of the electoral body.

This means that the final results from each of the polling stations across the country have not yet been known, which increases doubts about the CNE announcement that declared the incumbent Nicolás Maduro the winner with 54.1% of the votes versus 44.2% for the opposition candidate Edmundo González.

During the early hours of Monday 29, the president of the CNE, Elvis Amoroso, said he had 80% of the minutes with which they gave the first bulletin of results with an “irreversible” trend, but they have not yet published it in their Web page to theany official result from those records that were transmitted from the polling stations.

Several countries, such as Argentina, Chile, Peru, Costa Rica, Panama and Uruguay, demanded that the will of the Venezuelan people be respected and requested an urgent meeting with the Organization of American States (OAS) to discuss the Venezuelan case.

“I express my deep concern about the electoral process in Venezuela, since transparency must be the basis of its legitimacy. Electoral rules cannot be applied at discretion. A recount of the minutes with international verification is essential to recognize the result,” wrote the president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, on his X account.

The Carter Center, for its part, has asked Venezuela’s electoral body to publish “detailed results” of the election.

“The information from the minutes transmitted to the CNE is essential for our evaluation and fundamental for the Venezuelan people,” said the Carter Center, which recalled that its technical mission was sent to Venezuela following an invitation from the electoral body.
