Niobe Monteagudo from Shaping the Future to politics

She assures that it is not in her head right now to think of a candidacy for the municipality, she points out that her idea is to work to improve the lives of the people in the neighborhoods and that after a fleeting passage through the August 25 Committee, she was invited by Gervasio Aznárez (National Party) to join a local movement of young people with a lot of drive.

She chose EL ECO to respond to those who pointed to her as the future mayoress of María de Lima and we talked about that with Niobe Monteagudo, who will leave the leadership of the NGO Molding the Future next month and who is going to throw herself fully into working in politics.
“I am going to dedicate myself to politics, it is a decision I made months ago but we had been working with a low profile,” he says, “and I do it with Gervasio because the proposal was interesting and it caught my attention that he has a group of interesting young people for work, there are a lot of people, about ninety people and the group is also growing in Palmira, Tarariras and the rest of the department”, he says.

In this sense, he pointed out that “at some point I began to question that I had reached a ceiling with the Ong, we already had the house, everything, and so to continue doing things for people I had to be in a place where there were resources. So the issue is getting into the system to get resources to do things for people,” she said.

His beginnings with Shaping the Future

“All our lives we work with the bare minimum,” he says, “if I had the resources, much more could be done, being within the system you can go to the territory and follow up on the projects,” he said.

In what has to do with Ong, he says “I will continue in Molding but not as president. Next month there are elections and I am already four years old. And I’m leaving with everything to work in politics, I was waiting for my period in Molding to end, ”he says.

-What is your idea to join a political movement?
-I am managing the Colonia project from the Social Area, we are about 12 people working there and what we are going to do are meetings in the neighborhoods. I don’t have experience in politics, but in the social sphere, and that implies going to work in the neighborhoods with a Community Drivers project through sporting, artistic, and educational meetings, being with people, talking with people, all very relaxed. . And I like the profile that Gervasio has, with a very open head, and that they also start from scratch, like me, so each one can contribute from his place. I like that.

Are you interested in the municipality?
-Not for now, it’s too early and I wouldn’t risk saying anything. At some point I thought about it but now I would say no, there are two years to go, I want to work, apply the project and obtain results to see how the group moves without any aspiration for political office, which I do not have. I want to try and see the result, and that’s why I like the group because they are gurises with people with experience.

-What things can be contributed in the neighborhoods?
-There is a lack of reference places, there is a pile of shortcomings, infrastructure, public spaces, there are no reference spaces where they can carry out activities, more decentralization is necessary, and another thing that hurts me and draws my attention is that there is no municipal kitchen in Carmelo, I think that the social part of Carmelo in what has to do with food is not well managed. From the NGO we manage 60 baskets per month because nobody has a basket”.

– Will you get it from Gervasio Aznárez’s group?
– I think so. I did not know Gervasio, he contacted me a few months ago to have a meeting because young people consulted me a lot about the social reality of the neighborhoods, so we began to meet and now we meet every week and we have been working together. I think Gervasio is very strong and he is surrounded by good people who support him. This is a local project, he remarks on his participation in the Aznárez group, we are focused on the local and then we will see the departmental.
