A total of 9 forest fires, reported between September 12 and 15, were extinguished in the last few hours by authorities in the regions of Ancash, Apurímac, Cusco, La Libertad and Lima, according to information from the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) of the National Institute of Civil Defense.
In the districts of Huari, Pueblo Libre and Huayllán (Áncash), personnel from the provincial and district municipalities and residents carried out work to control and extinguish the fire.
In the jurisdiction of Sicuani, Cusco, two other fires were reported, which were extinguished by the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru, the National Police of Peru and local governments.
In the department of Apurímac, two emergencies were reported in the districts of Capaya and Curahuasi, which were extinguished by the competent authorities. In addition, in the districts of Curgos (La Libertad) and Sumbivilca (Lima), firefighters, police and organized communities did the same.
According to information from the Disaster Risk Management offices of the district municipalities, the fires left 6 houses destroyed and 3 uninhabitable; they also consumed 272.5 hectares (ha) of natural cover and 1 ha of crops, and caused damage to 600 meters of irrigation pipes.
