Night curfew extended in Peruvian capital and 24 provinces

The ban on the transit of vehicles and pedestrians, which was in force from 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., began at 11:00 p.m. local time, with the same end time and the restrictions that complement the sanitary measures taken in the face of the accelerated increase of infections with the Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus due to the presence of the omicron variant.

In addition to the capital, a government decree declared a high alert level for the adjacent Callao province and those of Ica, Pisco, Cusco, Cajamarca, Jaén, Piura, Sullana, Sechura, Talara, Trujillo, Pacasmayo, Chiclayo, Santa, Puno, Huaura, Bagua, Chachapoyas, Tacna, Huancayo, Satipo, Mariscal Nieto, Ilo and Tumbes.

The new restrictions will take effect next Friday, the day after the decree is published in the official gazette, as required by law.

Measures that seek to stop the spread of the disease include reducing the normal capacity to between 40 and 60 percent in shopping centers, department stores, general stores, restaurants, banks, cinemas, theaters and other closed spaces.

It allows performing arts and other activities in open spaces, with social distancing and authorization from local authorities and the Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos, left open the possibility of new measures.

“We will announce some complementary measures that can be determined in the coming days, according to how the course of the pandemic is progressing, the number of cases, etc.,” said the official.
