The intense heat has led locals and tourists to flock to the beaches even after the sun sets. Records on social media over the weekend and on the São Sebastião holiday (20) showed beaches such as Arpoador and Recreio dos Bandeirantes crowded with visitors during the night, and, in some cases, bathers remained even during the early hours of the morning.
The scene was repeated this Wednesday (22), when a crowd gathered on the beaches of Arpoador and Ipanema, in the south of the city. The spot is famous for attracting locals and tourists to enjoy the sunset, but the visitors’ excitement continued after the applause at the end of another hot day.
Despite the increase in cloudiness and the record of rain in parts of the west zone and Baixada Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro again had a day of high temperatures this Wednesday. The maximum reached 39.7 degrees Celsius (°C) in Irajá, in the north. The neighborhood also recorded the highest temperature this year, with 41.5 (°C), on January 18th.
According to Rio’s Rio Alert System, there is a forecast of quick and isolated rain showers this evening, which may be accompanied by lightning and gusts of wind.
The presence of clouds, rain showers and gusts of wind continues between Thursday (23) and Saturday (25). Winds should be light to moderate, and temperatures should vary between 39°C and 21°C.
The municipal meteorological service predicts that the weather will be influenced on Sunday by the displacement of a low pressure system off the coast of the Southeast Region, which should leave the sky predominantly cloudy, with light to moderate rain forecast from late morning onwards. The maximum should remain high, reaching 38°C.
