Nicolás Maduro: We have to move forward in an urban restructuring after the rains

The ruler Nicolás Maduro insisted on the ravages of climate change and how they should be addressed for “future planning” of housing construction. He reiterated that on October 19 school activities will resume in Las Tejerías, Aragua state; while in the El Castaño urbanization (Maracay) the electricity service is 80% recovered and three soup kitchens have been installed, although it has not been possible to reconnect the water service because the connections were blocked by mud.


The national president Nicholas Maduro He asserted this Tuesday, October 18, that it is necessary to advance in an “urban restructuring” in several towns and cities of the country, after the damages registered by the heavy rains in recent weeks. In addition, he pointed out that climate change is a “challenge for future planning”.

“We have to move forward with an urban restructuring in Tejerías and several towns and cities (…) This rainy season has hit us fiercely, very hard,” Maduro said in a speech from the Miraflores Palace.

He reiterated that on October 19 school activities will resume in Las Tejerías. 14 schools were refurbished and two preschools were located in other places because they are located in risk areas.

“The visit to Las Tejerías allowed us to get in touch with the people, verify the work, speed up the cleaning processes, create the Special Economic Fund to finance the recovery of Las Tejerías,” said the official.

He also reiterated that 450 homes of the Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela will be for residents of Las Tejerías, and “there is land in a good area where homes can be built (…) All governors must be on permanent alert (…) Armed Forces and all the Comprehensive Defense Zones, alert and pending to mobilize the force to care for and protect the people.

Regarding the flooding in the El Castaño urbanization, located in the Girardot municipality (Maracay), Maduro said that it was the product of tropical wave No. 44 that produced an “unusual fall of water” on the nearby mountain, and “from there the mudslide.” He pointed out that the figure remains at three deaths.

Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, who is in El Castaño this Tuesday afternoon, reported that there are 24 machines and 32 dump trucks for cleaning the roads. 10 families were housed in the Pipo hotel, the electrical service is 80% restored and three soup kitchens have been installed, although it has not been possible to reconnect the water service because the connections were blocked by mud.

While in the El Palmarito sector, one of the highest in the area, there are completely destroyed houses. “Appropriate communication mechanisms are being established if an eviction has to be ordered.”

For her part, the governor of Aragua state, Karina Carpio, thanked the work of the military, as well as the private sector to address the effects of the rains; while Rafael Morales, mayor of Girardot, said that the balance has been “positive and we hope that in the coming days we can regularize this situation.”

The mayor indicated that the main road of El Castaño is being recovered in order to access areas such as El Palmarito and Ojo de Agua. In the operation, 300 land and 12 aerial evacuations were carried out.

Regarding the situation in Mérida state, Governor Jehyson Guzmán said that channeling and cleaning of rivers and streams are being carried out in the Libertador municipality. Preventive evictions have been carried out in other municipalities due to the flooding of bodies of water, but there are no deaths to regret.

In the last few hours, 40 affected homes and six businesses were registered, in addition, the evaluation of homes on the banks of rivers is being carried out. He stressed that damages have been recorded in the Alberto Adriani municipalities; Elijah Field; Rivas Dávila (Dancers); Bishop Ramos de Lora, the most affected by the rains since April; Caracciolo Parra (Toucaní); and Arzobispo Chacón (Canaguá), where blockades were recorded on the road to the Pueblos del Sur.
