The President Nicolas Maduro He asserted this Tuesday, August 16, that he is “outraged” because the “hijacking” of the plane owned by the company Emtrasur, a subsidiary of Conviasa, limits “solidarity and support for peoples like Cuba.”
From the Miraflores Palace, where Francisco de Miranda delivered the order, in second class, to the PDVSA fire brigade that helped extinguish the fire in Matanzas (Cuba), he said that it took 18 hours to go to that country due to that “the special plane” they have for humanitarian cases is “kidnapped”, referring to the Emtrasur aircraft seized from Argentina.
“See how imperialism hurts. For 18 hours we lost the opportunity to extinguish the fire before (…) I am outraged that the hijacking of the plane limits solidarity and support for peoples like Cuba, “said the president.
On August 8, two months of the retention of this Emtrasur aircraft, which previously belonged to the Iranian airline Mahan Air, sanctioned by the United States for operating as a logistics arm to transport weapons, resources and personnel of terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and the Quds Forces.
Three days later it became known that a federal judge from Argentina ordered the seizure of the plane and determined that it be available to his court and to the federal judge of Washington, DC, Michael Harvey.
For this, the Argentine ambassador to Venezuela, Oscar Laborde, was criticized for using the word “kidnapping.” Deputies from that country requested that he be dismissed immediately.

President Nicolás Maduro asserted that the island “is not alone nor will it ever be alone under any circumstances” and promised to help design new tankers for Cuba, while waiting for “Mexico to join.”
During the act, Maduro also handed over a replica of the “Carabobo saber” to the PDVSA fire brigade. “You have been brave patriots and helped the Cuban people.”
The firefighters thanked “the trust” placed in helping to extinguish the fire. “We formed a monolithic and integrated block with our partners and managed to prevent the event from escalating to other sites threatened by the fire,” said engineer Rupert Hurtado.
The worker asserted that “unprecedented practices” were carried out, such as the pumping of water by helicopter to a hydrocarbon fire. He explained that weather conditions should also be taken into account.
Earlier, the Venezuelan leader received in Miraflores the credentials of the ambassadors of Nicaragua, Mauritania, Ghana, Botswana and Angola.
