Nicolás Maduro intensifies the war against Venezuelan teachers

Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela

Havana Cuba. – The National Assembly of Venezuela just approved the Student Participation Law in the Basic Education Subsystem, which would allow middle-level students to replace teachers who continue on the streets demanding living wages, since they currently earn between seven and 23 dollars a month.

Under the pretext of defending the right of students to organize in student councils, the Maduro regime deals a devastating blow to the education system that it has progressively destroyed since it took power.

Several leaders of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) They have justified the new law with crazy opinions, such as that teachers can be replaced by students who are in high school or have already graduated.

This was stated by Jorge Alberto Arreaza, Minister for Communes and Social Movements. For his part, Deputy Pedro Miguel Carreño proposed making a school-by-school diagnosis, to find out the exact deficit and try to alleviate it not only with high school students, but with retired teachers who wish to return to the classroom.

Faced with the danger that this initiative represents, the National Federation of Parents and Representatives Societies (Fenasopadres) and Organized Parents of Venezuela have firmly rejected the government decision to replace teachers, alleging that the real objective is to ensure political and social control. of the student body of secondary education, and of the Venezuelan family.

In addition, they have emphasized that the law in question violates the right to free association and participation, by elevating the new student councils above any other form of organization of the student movement, which would force students to unite around entities promoted by chavismo.

The Venezuelan educational sector has been one of the most attacked by the Maduro regime with the reduction of the budget of the universities, the miserable salaries earned by teachers and the neglect that has spread through educational institutions. Added to this are the numbers of school dropouts which, according to the National Survey of Living Conditions of Venezuela (Encovi), amounts to 190,000 students who dropped out between 2021 and 2022.
