Nicolás Maduro decreed three days of mourning for the death of Pope Francis, which occurred on Monday, April 21. Through the official gazette it was reported that the measure begins at 6:00 pm and will culminate on Thursday 24 at 6:00 pm
In honor of the Pope, the national flag at half -mast was ordered to fly in all public buildings, both civil and military.
With the measure, the festivities and public celebrations for these three days are prohibited as a sample of mourning.
Maduro described the Pope as “a fraternal friend of the Venezuelan people who represented the greatest values of humanity.”
In the Gazette it is stated that the Pope “did not hesitate to bother the powers with the truth of the Gospel, whose voice denounced the inequalities of the system and gave impulse to a church committed to the causes of the poor, the protection of nature and dialogue between cultures and religions.”
The authorities also thanked Francisco in the statement to have promoted the canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández.
