US President Donald Trump said Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were “captured and transferred out of the country.”
Through his Truth Social account at 5:21 am in Venezuela (6:21 in the United States), Trump indicated that the “operation was carried out in conjunction with US law enforcement” and promised to provide more details in the morning hours of Saturday.
At 2:00 in the morning this Saturday, January 3, several explosions were recorded in Caracas; like other states in the country such as Miranda and La Guaira.

The Minister for Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, condemned the attack by the US military forces and confirmed that one of the attacks was on Fuerte Tiuna and added that the “invading forces (…) came to impact with their missiles and rockets fired from their combat helicopters in urban areas of the civilian population.”
Padrino assured that they are collecting information regarding the injured and dead.

«Let us not give in to the panic that the enemy wants to sow. Let’s avoid chaos and anarchy, which are weapons as lethal as bombs,” he emphasized in his message broadcast on the State channel after 5:00 am.
Since last August, the Trump administration deployed military forces to the Caribbean to fight drug trafficking. Maduro denounced that what the US was really looking for was a regime change in the country.
