“We ask that there be enough oppression for simply thinking differently. We want freedom, we simply want that, and that our rights be respected, especially the right to life,” he added.
Hours before his arrest was reported, Evans himself reported through a video published on Saturday, December 14, that a Sebin commission had appeared at his residence, in Caracas, to summon him to an “interview,” which he stated that he would attend voluntarily.
“At this moment there is a commission at my door that has identified itself as from Sebin. They say they are going to conduct an interview. I am going to voluntarily go to that interview,” he said.
Evans, also founder of the Movement for Democracy and Inclusion (MDI), indicated that he had received prior warnings about this call, although he assured that he had no reason to fear. He did not specify the reason for the summons or if the authorities offered details about it.
It is not the first time that the political scientist faces arrests. In July 2020, he was arrested by Dgcim and Cicpc officials, accused of “inciting hatred.” A month later, in August of that year, he was released after receiving a presidential pardon, along with former opposition deputies, journalists and social activists.
So far, authorities have not offered official information about Evans’ whereabouts or conditions.
