«Double-round primaries, not by blocks (…) That whoever wants to register, register. Let there be the greatest possible openness in relation to participation, ”argued Evans
The president of the Democracy and Inclusion Movement, Nick Evansexpressed this Wednesday that the opposition must make a greater effort to bring together the opponents of the Nicolás Maduro regime in a single candidacy.
During an interview, the candidate for the primary elections recognized that “there are sectors that are not interested in participating in primaries”, despite needing them discursively.
“They invent a different primary to those that are really viable in order to have some discursive element with which to distract people,” he questioned.
Faced with this scenario, the also political scientist reiterated that an electoral process must be opened where those who are in judicialized organizations and those who are questioned have a place, in order to really appeal to give legitimacy to the electoral event and that Venezuelans finally say exactly what is he wants and whom he wants leading the Venezuelan opposition.
Likewise, and after reiterating that the MDI is not currently part of the Unitarian Platform, the political leader pointed out that they recently met with Omar Barboza, the new head of this opposition coalition, to whom they expressed their willingness to participate in the construction of technical elements and programmatic that, as he stressed, should be signed by those who are willing to participate in these primaries.
“The Unitarian Platform has an extraordinary opportunity to be able to facilitate the entire development process of constituting a primary alternative that is really efficient (…) We believe that it is a space that can be a starting point so that these primaries can reach the maximum extension possible,” he added.

The MDI representative reiterated the approach of a double-round electoral fair, while explaining that the first round would serve to define who are the main figures and organizations that are currently being legitimized by the Venezuelan population, while in the second the presidential candidate is chosen.
