The Daniel Ortega regime will increase, as of this coming January 1, 2023, the cost of procedures taxed with the tax stamp tax, as announced by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit through a statement on the that update that rate. Businessman Roberto D’Andrea describes this increase as a “serious problem”.
«Using the stamped paper and tax stamp is a problem, especially for hoarders, who at the end of the year occupy the stamped paper that they no longer sell, if it is scarce they sell it very high. It is important that the entity that is in charge of controlling and selling this material regulates it after this increase,” said the economist in an interview with Article 66.

He affirms that within this rise there is a “compensation” between two items that in the end benefit the pockets of the institutions. “It was seen that the items where they are used the most are where the tax stamps increased, while the other items where the value of the tax stamps is less used decreased,” he highlighted.
D’Andrea assures that the problem lies in the fact that there is no reliable information in official sources, so it is not possible to know with certainty what the total increase in these materials is.
In the previous adjustment that corresponded to the year 2021, it was defined based on a sliding rate of the official exchange rate of the córdoba with respect to the dollar, the same argument with which this new increase was announced. The Ministry of Finance also stated that it is due to the inflation rate reported by the official Central Bank of Nicaragua.
However, despite the fact that inflation, according to the record of the last twelve months, was 11.38 percent, the rates will reflect an increase of more than 20 percent, that is, that citizens will have to pay more money for each sheet of stamped paper and tax stamps.
This material is used to a greater extent by lawyers and study centers that must issue certifications. With this increase, those who require a general, administrative or special power of attorney, note certificates, substitution of powers, purchase, rental or sale contracts will have to allocate more funds.
Each sheet of stamped paper will be sold between 13 and 19 córdobas, according to the Treasury report. The annual adjustment of the quota was established in the reforms to Law 822 in February 2019.
