The Nicaraguan said that Lula has had a “brutal” and “cowardly” reaction for demanding transparency in the electoral process, something that, for Ortega, makes Lula part of the “servile, traitorous, groveling governments.”
“Now that the elections must be repeated, they say. Brazil, Lula, says it,” said Ortega, and claimed that the Brazilian repeats “the slogans of the Yankees and the Europeans, and of the grovelling governments of Latin America.”
“You’re crawling too, Lula! You’re crawling, Lula!” Ortega declared.
He also asked for respect for Maduro’s “victory”, proclaimed by institutions close to the Chavista regime, without showing proof of the victory.
“If you want me to respect you, respect me, Lula. If you want the Bolivarian people to respect you, respect the victory of President Nicolás Maduro and stop groveling,” he exclaimed.
Ortega went so far as to describe Lula as “a representative of the Yankees in Latin America” and claimed that this was the reason they broke off relations with Brazil: because despite Nicaragua being a small country, “we have dignity.”
Tensions over electoral fraud
The Brazilian government assured the regime of Nicolás Maduro that it would not accept the ruling of the Venezuelan Supreme Court that ratified the victory of the Chavista candidate, according to government sources declared to the newspaper Clarion.
“The request for the regime to present the minutes is emphatic,” the sources commented to the aforementioned media outlet. In addition, they argued that the National Electoral Council should be the body that determines the winner of the presidential elections on July 28 based on the minutes of the scrutiny.

The governments of Brazil, Mexico and Colombia had published a joint statement in which they demanded that the National Electoral Council (CNE) present the results of the presidential elections broken down.
They reiterated that the results should contain a breakdown of each table and be published by the CNE and not by another entity.
