Nicaraguan dies in the United States, assailants broke into the apartment where he lived

Luis Antonio González Dávila is the Nicaraguan who on Sunday morning, July 2, 2023, joined the list of compatriots who died in the United States. The event that claimed the young man’s life occurred in Memphis, in the state of Tennessee. The compatriot shared the apartment with two other men, who were also injured. Initially it was known that one of those affected was a relative of González, but his family has not confirmed this information.

One of the survivors recounted that the gunmen entered the place at 4 in the morning to rob them, but ended up shooting them, the victim’s two companions were taken to a hospital and did not provide further details of the assault. Relatives of the deceased informed members of the organization Texas Nicaraguan Community that the body was taken to a morgue, while the crime is clarified.

It was not disclosed if the deceased’s companions are Nicaraguan. The agency announced on its social networks that the relatives will request help to bury González in his native Nicaragua.

On June 17, a 38-year-old compatriot died in similar circumstances after being shot in the head in a shootout in Los Angeles, California. He was returning from his work center to the place where he lived, he was originally from Jinotega.

In the first six months of this year, some 15 Nicaraguans died in the United States, in different circumstances. Less than half have been repatriated due to their families’ lack of financial resources. Given this, experts warn of the urgent need for migrants to acquire body repatriation insurance.

González becomes the first compatriot to die in the northern country in the month of July.
