A group of almost 70 Nicaraguan organizations from inside and outside the country, and people based in different parts of the world, chose in the Congress of Unity of Free Nicaraguans, through a live vote, the National Council for Democratic Transition to confront the Ortega-Murillo regime, using “all civic means to achieve a way out of the dictatorship” and initiate a transition towards democracy in Nicaragua.
They also signed a unity agreement with the sole objective of “overthrowing the dictatorship and rejecting all proposals for dialogue and elections while the dictatorship is still standing.”
“We unite and we call to unite to build a fighting organization that, while the dictatorship exists, will dedicate itself exclusively to designing, coordinating and executing actions that strike their foundations until they are overthrown. We are committed to establishing democracy by practicing it from today in decision-making and acting with irreproachable ethics, ”says part of the agreement signed by the organizations.
The National Council for Democratic Transition that was elected is made up of Francisco Larios, economist and writer; Danilo Martínez, lawyer, master in Industrial Chemistry; Reyna Hernández, former mayor and community leader of Wiwilí, Jinotega; Roger Alfredo Martínez, psychologist; Álvaro Montenegro Mayorga, former ambassador and trained in Political Science and Business Administration; Pío Martínez, sociologist, writer and blogger; and Ariana McGuire, social communicator.
The Congress of the Free Nicaraguan Unity indicated that “it does not seek to summon the people or establish itself as an authoritarian entity over it, but rather to enhance the population’s fighting capacity; helping the people to deploy their combative energy in a coordinated manner ”.
They ask for support from the international community
Francisco Larios, elected member of the Council and of the Congressional Liaison Commission, indicated in the opening words of the event that as a group they are “solely to design, plan, coordinate and execute actions of struggle that hit the dictatorship, that undermine all their points of support ”.
The organizations reiterated that the Ortega regime is illegitimate and indicated that they are unaware of this new mandate, which he will assume thanks to the electoral farce that took place on November 7.
In addition, they called on the international community to accompany them “in our just and elemental demand, and ignore with us the usurper clan; prevent resources from being given them under the excuse that they are for good purposes; break diplomatically; help to stop the murder, genocide, theft and state terrorism imposed on the entire population ”.
Larios affirmed that as a group they do not want a war as a method to remove the dictatorship from power. “We will fight to avoid bloodshed, and for that reason, the sooner we organize the political struggle of the people, and the sooner the international community understands that the usurper regime, apart from being cruel, destabilizes the country and the region, the more We will easily prevent our country from suffering more violence, “he said.
Exiles reject the regime’s takeover
Nicaraguan organizations, located in different countries, welcomed the worldwide protest called “Nicaragua has no government or legitimate powers of the State,” in rejection of the inauguration of the new mandate of Ortega and Murillo.
In Germany, a group of Nicaraguans protested with signs that read: “Closed doors, empty streets. Illegitimate government ”; “World Protest January 9. Illegitimate Ortega ”; and “Dictatorship in Nicaragua.”
Another group of Nicaraguans also stationed themselves on the outskirts of the Organization of American States (OAS), in Washington, United States, in rejection of the inauguration of the Ortega regime and in demand of forceful actions from the international community.
The Articulation of Social Movements and a group of other organizations in exile, also expressed this Sunday their rejection of the electoral farce and the results that the regime will defend on January 10 when assuming a fourth consecutive term of Government.
The organizations held the vigil in Plaza de la Democracia, located in San José, Costa Rica, in which they demanded the freedom of all political prisoners, who so far number more than 160 in all the country’s prisons, and denounced the regime of Ortega for his “illegitimate usurpation of power.”
The group of Nicaraguans exiled in Costa Rica made murals, where they placed photographs of some of the prisoners of conscience, and an act where, in addition to dancing to the marimba, they denounced the violations that continue to be committed in the country, especially against the deprived of liberty.
