Nicaragua with more than 60 femicides in 2022. The last criminal had been recently released

A 40-year-old woman identified as Ivette de la Concepcion Blanco Mora was the last victim of femicide in 2022. The woman was murdered at the hands of her brother Antonio de Jesus Blanco Moraalias “El Chino”, 44, who had nine days after being released from prison through the presidential pardon of Daniel Ortega, according to official media.

According to the information, the crime occurred on the morning of December 31 when they were both arguing over the house where they lived, the man pulled out a knife and attacked her until she ended her life.

The incident took place in the house located in the Martha Quezada neighborhood, in Managua’s District Two, which, according to neighbors, was bequeathed to several relatives by her grandmother.

“They are drug and alcohol users, and in the heat of the drinks they were arguing over possession of the house, who was the owner, and they say that he practiced six thrusts in the back,” a neighbor told TN8.

One of the relatives who was in the house at the time of the crime also said, under anonymity, that Antonio Blanco came looking for him after taking his sister’s life.

«It happened to me kicking the shoe hard. “Get up! I just killed my sister!”, he says to her. I thought it was a lie and the maje with the chuzo kept looking at me. I got up and went to see her, and I saw her like this (deceased),” she commented.

The alleged femicide has a criminal record for robbery with violence and had received the legal benefit of family coexistence granted on December 22 by the regime to more than 1,300 common inmates nationwide.

“We thank God and our good government of unity and national reconciliation for continuing to contribute to the well-being of families and that their hearts are filled with love, calm and peace,” said the Minister of the Interior, Amelia Coronel, at the time.

The subject was reported and arrested immediately. For its part, the National Police has only reported that, between December 31, 2022 and January 1, 2023, there were five homicide deaths, including one in Managua.

More than 60 femicides

The members of the Network of Women against Violence (RMCV-Nicaragua) stated that they are “outraged once again that sexist violence continues to end the lives of women.”

They pointed out that the femicide of Ivette Blanco occurred while the death of Miriam del Carmen Vallecillo, 30, another alleged victim of gender-based violence at the hands of her partner known as “Kiko” was being investigated; event that occurred in the Oscar Turcios neighborhood of the capital.

The observatory of the feminist organization Catholics for the Right to Decide counted 67 murders against women Nicaraguans at the end of the year. With the last cases registered on December 31, the number would have increased to 69 femicides in 2022.

The Government of Nicaragua has only proposed to publish a primer that “proposes the practice of values ​​and principles that guarantee a harmonious, supportive and dignified relationship” to prevent femicide.
