The governments of Nicaragua and Iran signed an agreement for the export of Nicaraguan meat to the Asian country, the Institute for Agricultural Protection and Health (IPSA) reported on Thursday.
“With the signing of this agreement, Nicaragua will begin a new stage in exports to Iran, with a high-quality and world-renowned product,” said the director of IPSA, Ricardo Somarriba, after the signing of the agreement, held electronically in Managua and Tehran.
In Iran, the deputy minister and head of the Veterinary Organization, Seyed Mohammad Aghamiri, stated that “with the agreement, the deep bilateral relations between the two countries are confirmed.”

Beef is one of Nicaragua’s main export products. In 2021, its 726.3 million dollars in sales were only surpassed by the 867.6 million dollars produced by gold.
Until now, relations between Nicaragua and Iran have been limited to the political plane. However, they improved from last January, in the midst of the controversy that both nations unleashed, when Tehran sent Mohsen Rezai, one of those accused by the Argentine Justice for the attack, to the fifth inauguration ceremony of Daniel Ortega as president. of 1994 against the Jewish mutual society AMIA of Buenos Aires.
Since then, Nicaragua has received a donation of vaccines against covid-19 from Iran, and both countries signed an agreement through which the Central American country will be able to acquire medicines from the Asian country.
