Nicaragua reports 15,569 cases of Covid since the start of the pandemic

Nicaragua reported at least 15,569 cases of COVID-19 from the start of the pandemic until January 24, according to the latest report of the Ministry of Health, disclosed on Tuesday.

The report details that of that amount, at least 15,277 have recovered, so there would be 292 victims of coronavirus, a number that has been questioned by independent doctors who maintain that there has been a “misrepresentation” in the data.

The Ministry of Health also reported that from the week between January 17 and 24, 47 Nicaraguans who were infected with COVID were treated.

The Health portfolio specified that some people were under follow-up, after suffering from chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and immunodeficiency syndrome, among others.

This week, according to the health authorities, there were no deaths attributable to COVID-19.

Nicaragua reported the first case of COVID in March 2022

Nicaragua reported its first case of COVID-19 on March 18, 2022, when the entire world was on alert for the pandemic.

Some countries decreed a health alert and called for a confinement, however, in Nicaragua massive events were called and there were crowds promoted by the government of President Daniel Ortega, accused by the health sector of minimizing the pandemic.

However, months later, “express burials” and burials at night began to be reported.

According to the independent Citizen Observatory of COVID-19, made up of doctors and health professionals in Nicaragua, there had been at least 5,815 deaths from COVID and more than 32,000 infections between March and February 2022 alone.
