Nicaragua gives “approval” to the first ambassador appointed by China

The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo gave the diplomatic “approval” to Chen Xi as resident ambassador and plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China in Nicaragua. This would be the first diplomatic delegate appointed by the communist government of Xi Jinping, the same one that serves as general secretary of the Asian giant’s Communist Party Committee.

“The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Nicaragua, have the honor to inform that Mr. Chen Xi has been granted style approval, as resident and plenipotentiary ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in our country,” he says. an official note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua signed by Ortega Foreign Minister Denis Moncada Colindres.

On May 20, the regime notified that Orlando José Gómez Zamora was removed from his position as Nicaraguan ambassador to Venezuela to become the representative to his ally China. Gómez has been characterized as a defender of Daniel Ortega, which has earned him various diplomatic posts in recent years.

Presidential agreement number 77-2022 of La Gaceta resolves to “annul the appointment of comrade Orlando José Gómez, in the position of Nicaraguan ambassador to the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela; contained in the presidential agreement dated March eighteen of the year two thousand and twenty-two”, the publication refers.

Ortega’s ambassador “has also received the approval of that brother government to carry out his duties. Both ambassadors will be starting their period of representation in the very near future,” says the official note.

The first Chinese ambassador to Nicaragua already has diplomatic experience in dictatorships in the Americas, in June 2021 he completed his mission before the regime of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in Havana, Cuba.

The regime maintains close relations with China after breaking relations with Taiwan in December 2021 and expropriating its assets in Managua, an action that China described as “an act of justice” by Nicaragua.
