A bus with passengers fell off a cliff while traveling this Wednesday from Managua to the border area with Honduras, leaving a total of 16 dead and 47 injured, according to the National Police.
The accident occurred at night, on a sinuous slope known as “La Cucamonga”, located in the department (province) of Estelí, 170 kilometers north of Nicaragua, according to the agency. Eph.
Various sources told Efe that the bus was transporting Cuban and Venezuelan immigrants traveling without papers, a fact that the authorities have not yet denied or confirmed.
A list issued today by the National Police showed the names of 16 deceased people, of which 13 were Venezuelan, one Nicaraguan and two were yet to be identified.
It is not known if the bus traveled routinely from Managua to the city of Jalapa, as its sign indicated, or if it was an exclusive trip for irregular immigrants.

Due to its geographical location, Nicaragua is an obligatory step for people and merchandise that want to cross the American continent by land.
“La Cucamonga”, where this type of accident occurs periodically, is a section of the Pan-American Highway flanked by chasms and unstable walls, which cannot be avoided, and which connects the Nicaraguan border area with the rest of the country, according to the fountain.
