Nicaragua begins to evacuate vulnerable people due to storm Julia

The Nicaraguan Naval Force, together with local authorities, began to evacuate vulnerable families starting this Friday night, as the julia stormwhich threatens to become a hurricane in the next few hours.

At the moment there is no exact figure of the people evacuated, but the official media have indicated that in the North Caribbean more than 90 people from the Miskito Cays have been mobilized, while in the South Caribbean, families from Laguna have also been evacuated. pearl.

People are being transferred to shelters set up in various parts of the Caribbean, without the exact total being known.

Anthony Selva, a resident of the city of Bilwi, in the North Caribbean region of Nicaragua, told the voice of america via telephone that the rains in the area began slightly at around 10:00 am this Saturday.

He assured that the residents remain calm due to the experience of recent years, where two hurricanes hit the North Caribbean of the country.

No warning issued at the moment

The Nicaraguan government has not decreed any type of alert for this Saturday, however on Friday Vice President Rosario Murillo assured that they would raise the corresponding alerts during the day, as the impact that Julia would have is known.
