Nicaragua adds more than three consecutive months without deaths from covid, says Minsa

Nicaragua accumulated this Tuesday 17 consecutive weeks without reporting deaths from covid-19 to maintain the number of deaths at 245, according to the most recent report from the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

“This week there were no deaths attributable to covid-19,” reported the health authorities. The Ministry of Health has not reported deaths from this cause since last July 19.

The Minsa did register in its weekly report 23 new confirmed cases of covid-19 in the recent week, for a total of 19,850 infections since the pandemic reached Nicaragua in March 2020.

The official data remained distant from those recorded by the Covid-19 Citizen Observatory, a network of independent doctors that monitors the pandemic and that until last July had reported 6,066 deaths from pneumonia and other symptoms of the coronavirus, in addition to 32,650 cases. suspects, figures that the Government does not recognize.

The Minsa also reported that since the start of the pandemic it has “attended and provided responsible and careful follow-up to 15,219 people”, while another 14,951 have “achieved recovery”.

91% of the population over 2 years of age already have the complete vaccination schedule against covid-19, while 96% have at least one dose, according to official information.

Nicaragua has not applied restrictive measures as part of the fight against the coronavirus since the pandemic began, which has earned it criticism from the World Health Organization (WHO). EFE
