NGOs hold the FAN responsible for allowing the execution of indigenous people in Amazonas

Two NGOs maintain their concern about the death and disappearance of indigenous people in Amazonas and relate it to the presence of the FAN in the Yapacana area

The NGOs Control Ciudadano and SOS Orinoco reported that the body of Alejandro Rojas, an indigenous Jivi ethnic group who had been missing for several days and who worked in one of the illegal mines that abound in the Yapacana National Park, was allegedly found. In his opinion, he is part of the actions carried out by the National Armed Forces in the area under Operation Roraima.

The former governor of the state of Amazonas, Liborio Guarulla, denounced on Saturday, December 7, via instagram the appearance of a manacled corpse in Yapacapana, who is supposedly Rojas. He warned that for some time the death of several indigenous people has been reported; a fact that in his opinion has been heating up the spirits among the communities that are located in the Alto Orinoco and the Ventuari against the guerrillas and the illegal groups that exploit the gold.

The NGO Control Ciudadano reports that this type of situation occurs since the military actions carried out by the FAN in the states of Amazonas and Bolívar under “Operation Roraima”, which according to the head of the Strategic Operational Command of the National Armed Forces (Ceofanb ), G/J Domingo Hernández Lárez, has been deployed since December 21.

In this sense, the director of Social Watch, Rocío San Miguel, said that on Friday, January 6, a protest was registered in Yapacana to demand the appearance of the indigenous leader Wilberto Camico, who has been missing since December 28; when he was seen in the company of a subject who allegedly belongs to irregular groups that operate in the area, as reported Kape-kape.

San Miguel was struck by the fact that, hours after the protest took place, the body of who is presumed to be Alejandro Rojas appears. For this reason, he believes that the message that the perpetrators of his death are sending is to avoid protesting.

The parishes of Yapacana and Macaruco, in Amazonas, protested on Friday, January 6, to ask for the whereabouts of Camico. Since he disappeared, according to Living Border, his family and community went to ask for help from the Army Major stationed in the Yapacana National Park, but there has been no effective response. “They’re not really looking for it. The Major has ignored us. That is why we are asking the commander of the Comprehensive Defense Operational Zone to speak out and act, as well as the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples and the Prosecutor’s Office”.

It is for that reason that Citizen Control asks the Public Prosecutor’s Office to urgently intervene in this matter to initiate the corresponding investigation and find those responsible for the death of the indigenous man.

The NGO SOS Orinoco questions whether the appearance of the dead and handcuffed indigenous man, as well as the disappearance of Camico, could be related to some kind of retaliation. In addition, he denounces that the modus operandi of the FAN in Amazonas is that they notify those who manage the Yapacana, which would be the ELN and the FARC, that they will carry out an operation.

Then, the FAN together with the guerrillas coordinate where they are going to bomb to make propaganda and take photos, where there are no detainees and, in addition, they would be executing indigenous people who oppose illegal activities.
