NGO warns that reporter Deysi Peña decompensated in police cell

A Window to Freedom reported that after being examined by doctors, Peña was returned to the Miranda state Police cells, where she is undergoing her medical treatment.


Renal colic required photojournalist Deysi Peña (40 years old) to be transferred to the Ocumare del Tuy hospital in the state of Miranda, on October 9. The communicator, who is detained, suffers from renal lithiasis (stones in the kidneys).

“His blood pressure went down, he had a fever and he was in very bad pain. The police took her to the emergency center, where they evaluated her and gave her treatment. Currently, his hemoglobin is 10 g/dL and he has an infection, which requires a urine culture,” said a close friend of Peña.

After being examined by doctors, Peña was returned to the Miranda state Police cells, where she is undergoing her medical treatment, reported in a release the organization A Window to Freedom.

Deysy Peña was arrested on August 2 at a service station in Los Nuevos Teques, Guaicaipuro municipality. There she was approached by officials from the Miranda Police, who checked her cell phone.

On his cell phone they found photographs of the coverage he did during the protests that took place in the country after the presidential election on July 28.

The professional was presented on August 7, via on-linebefore the 2nd Terrorism Control Judge, Carlos Liendo, by Prosecutor’s Office 47 of the Public Ministry (MP). In the legal act, the judge issued a custodial measure. He was charged with obstruction of public roads, terrorism and incitement to hatred.

He is now awaiting the preliminary hearing. On Saturday, September 21, the 45 days that the Public Ministry has to present the conclusive act of the investigation were completed.
