NGO that awarded Arbeleche is financed by the Dubai monarchy

The government of Luis Lacalle Pou celebrated that its Minister of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche, was awarded as “best Minister of State” by the World Government Summit Organization (WGSO), an award that is given annually in Dubai and recognizes “the excellence in its performance in the public sector and leadership at an international level”.

“The Minister of Economy and Finance of Uruguay was highlighted for ‘designing and implementing successful, scalable and sustainable initiatives for the socioeconomic improvement of its citizens’ and for ‘inspiring and leading other government leaders to promote innovation and foresight in the areas of today and tomorrow’”, says the statement from the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) echoing such award.

To select the people who will receive the award that was given to Arbeleche, the MEF explained in the statement, “part of a group of 194 countries, and those that are in the highest 80% of the following four are selected. Global macro and socioeconomic aggregate indices: (i) Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index; (ii) World Governance Indicators; (iii) Human Development Index and (iv) Happiness Index. Those countries in which the government has been in office for less than 18 months, or have had social tensions, were also excluded.

What is WGSO?

The World Government Summit Organization, or World Government Summit Organization, (WGSO) is an entity based in Dubai, one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates.

The WGSO claims to be “neutral and non-profit” and dedicated “to shaping the future of government.”

It is led by the absolute monarch of Dubai, ruled since 2006 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his son, Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The monarch assures that the NGO supports “governments that place the well-being of people at the center of their efforts to achieve progressive development and contribute to the path of human progress.”

The sheikh has been involved in different controversies, among which is the attempt to escape from the UAE by his daughter Latifa, who was intercepted on a sailboat in the Arabian Sea by a government security command and taken back to one of the palaces. of the family.

Latifa claimed to be running away from her family and accused them of abuse in addition to pointing to her father for the alleged authorship of several murders, including the death of the wife of her deceased older brother. All this happened in 2018.

Three years later, in February 2021, images broadcast by the British state media BBC They show Princess Latifa saying she has been “held hostage” by her family for over a year “without access to medical care and in solitary confinement.” The woman said that the royal family has kept her in a jail with closed windows and doors and that she is guarded by the police 24 hours a day.

On June 29, 2019, the British newspaper The Sun reported that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s wife, Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, had escaped from Dubai and was in Germany seeking political asylum along with their children.

According to an investigation by the British media The TimesSheikh Mohammed has at least six wives and 30 children. His first wife, Sheikha Hind bint Maktum bin Juma Al Maktoum, is the mother of the crown prince and 11 other sons and daughters.
