NGO Electoral Transparency denounces the actions of false electoral observers in Venezuela

Red de Observación de Integridad Electoral pide “conteo transparente y público” en Venezuela

AREQUIPA, Peru – The regional non-governmental organization, Transparencia Electoral, denounced the presence of “false international electoral observers” in Venezuela who are trying to legitimize the electoral fraud perpetrated by Chavismo after the elections of July 28.

The NGO reported on its website that the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry invited hundreds of activists from parties related to the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) as international “observers,” “watchers,” or “accompaniers,” “even though they had no training for it.”

According to the text, a large part of the “observers” traveled to Caracas to participate in the meeting “II World Social Alternative: the organization of the peoples is a factor for self-determination,” organized by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) and held days before the elections.

In this regard, Electoral Transparency identified approximately one hundred of these alleged observers, as well as their countries of origin and organizations or parties in which they are active.

“Many of these people were very active on social media, before, during and after the election day, claiming that these were elections that met democratic standards, although most of them could not hide their support. to Maduro“, Electoral Transparency points out.

Fake election observation is “a form of political activity carried out by international actors and aimed at promoting the interests of politicians and political forces by imitating credible election monitoring during electoral processes,” according to the European Platform for Democratic Elections.

Electoral Transparency adds that, as The Venezuelan caseThe aim of these fake observers is to cover up electoral fraud before national and international audiences, legitimize electoral processes considered illegitimate by the international community, delegitimize and weaken the institution of free and fair elections, subvert and/or relativize the results of credible electoral observation, weaken political rivals and build networks of influence.

The NGO recalled that the CNE has not presented the minutes of the scrutiny of the more than 30,000 voting tables, something that it should have done in the first 48 hours after the elections.

“The fake electoral observers who traveled to Venezuela are using their networks of influence to support the massive fraud of the CNE and ignore the will of the Venezuelan people,” the complaint highlights.

The post-electoral crisis in Venezuela

On July 29, the National Electoral Council (CNE), controlled by the Venezuelan regime, accredited Maduro with 51.95% of the votes in the elections of Sunday, July 28, while Edmundo García only received 43.18%.

The opposition, which has managed to gather 81% of the voting records, currently public in a web page for review by citizens and independent organizations, states that García far surpassed Maduro by almost 40% of the votes.

Dozens of countries have recognized González Urrutia as the president-elect, or have otherwise demanded that the electoral records be presented in the correct conditions.

In the midst of the repression unleashed by Chavismo against the protests, the organization Criminal Forum reports 1,406 “verified and identified” arrests in Venezuela, including 117 of minors between the ages of 14 and 17.
