NGO Caritas estimates that more than 750 homes in Las Tejerías were affected

Caritas, which carried out a tour in the Las Tejerías area, indicated that some 1,400 families were affected in the incident. They also expressed their solidarity with those affected by the rains throughout the country.


The NGO Caritas Venezuela reported that at least 765 homes in the Las Tejerías sector of the Santos Michelena municipality in Aragua state were affected by the landslide generated by the intense rainfall that occurred in the area, which caused the death of at least 25 people.

According to the EFE agency, Caritas Venezuela carried out an inspection in the area on Sunday, October 9, and estimates that some 1,400 families were affected by the incident, the product of a trough with electrical discharges that generated a “torrential avalanche in the upper part and floods due to the overflow of the Los Patos creek.

The report indicates that, in addition to the material losses that have been recorded, two schools and a high school were damaged.

Meanwhile, in a statement released by the NGO, he recalled that there are about 120 municipalities in Venezuela that have been affected by the rains of recent days and expressed their solidarity with all those affected, as well as sending their condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives.

Caritas Venezuela indicated that they activated “their fronts” to help people in need as soon as possible and deal with the consequences left by the rains, highlighting that all the chapters of the NGO are prepared to assist the emergency.

Nicolás Maduro’s administration declared Las Tejerías a catastrophe and natural disaster area, and formed a command post in the place where several ministers and the vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, have gone to promote aid to those affected.

The Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Corps (Cicpc) has already identified eight of the 25 deceased by the landslide generated by the rains of the last hours in Tejerías, Aragua state. Among the deceased there is a child under one year of age and a young man of 18.

In the police minute, which was disseminated by groups in the messaging services, it is indicated that from the Tejerías ambulatory the entry of several corpses from the disaster area was reported, presenting several polytraumatisms. For this reason, the members of the Scientific Police moved to the place to make the respective identifications.
