The Commission for Human Rights and Citizenship (Codehciu) alerted that between the months of January and February 2023, three people disappeared in the Orinoco Mining Arc.

“The report of missing persons in the Bolívar mining context is becoming more common. Without finding traces of them, their relatives suffer anguish due to uncertainty and fear is a permanent element. Finding out the truth could mean exposing yourself to greater danger for family members,” the organization stated in a press release.

As indicated, the disappeared are two women and a man who have a pattern in common: the mining context.

They found that two cases were generated by a “work context.” Regarding the third case, no details were known about the events before the disappearance.

One of the victims was last seen in the Sifontes municipality and the other two in the Roscio municipality of Bolívar state, the organization highlighted.

Disappeared in the Mining Arc

Lenis Coromoto Salazar (39), a native of Sucre state, is one of the victims. She worked in El Dorado and the last time she communicated with her relatives was on November 11, 2022 when she told them that she would work in a mine. “Since then, no more has been heard from her,” they explained.

The other two people are a couple who worked as boatmen in the Las Vainitas mine, in Guasipati. Both disappeared in February.

According to the organization, the media did not specify the identity of the disappeared, but presumably two bodies were found in the same area where the couple worked.

According to the newspaper scoop, a relative of the couple reported the case to the Center for Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations (Cicpc) of Tumeremo. The last thing that was known is that security agents are working on the search.
