Neymar returns to a list with Brazil

Neymar was called up for the last two qualifying matches for the Qatar World Cup 2022 by the brazilian coach Tite, who released his list on Friday. The PSG striker, eliminated by Real Madrid on Wednesday in the Champions League, had missed the first two games of the year with a left ankle injury.

He returns to the group for the matches against Chile on March 24 at the Maracaná in Rio and Bolivia on March 29 in La Paz. Brazil has already qualified for the World Cup. Neymar will be accompanied in attack by Vinicius Junior, Real Madrid striker.

Tite, who will step down after the World Cup, said Neymar “played well in the first half” against Madrid but then “sunk like the rest of his team.”

New to the list are the names of young striker Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal) and midfielder Arthur (Juventus), back in the squad after a year’s absence. Another notable return is that of Everton striker Richarlison. Instead, attackers Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) and Gabigol (Flamengo) are absent.

Brazil leads the Amsud group with 39 points, ahead of Argentina, also ranked with 35 points. The two teams still have to play a late game on a date not yet set. The match on matchday 6 had been interrupted last September due to violation of anti-Covid protocols.

The list of Brazilian players for Chile and Bolivia: Goalkeepers: Alisson (Liverpool), Ederson (Manchester City), Weverton (Palmeiras); Defenders: Dani Alves (FC Barcelona), Danilo (Juventus), Alex Telles (Manchester United), Guilherme Arana (Atlético Mineiro), Eder Militao (Real Madrid), Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal), Marquinhos (PSG), Thiago Silva (Chelsea ); Midfielders: Casemiro (Real Madrid), Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle), Arthur (Juventus), Fabinho (Liverpool), Fred (Manchester United), Lucas Paquetá (Lyon), Philippe Coutinho (Aston Villa); Forwards: Antony (Ajax), Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal), Neymar (PSG), Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid), Raphinha (Leeds United), Richarlison (Everton), Rodrygo (Real Madrid)
