The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, referred this Friday to the possible elimination of the mandatory use of the mask in closed spaces, indicating that the epidemiology team of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) will recommend this option, which will be presented next week before the Covid-19 Consultative Council, to later be supported by President Laurentino Cortizo, who will make the decision.

“Once the mandatory mask measure is lifted, let us be clear that this does not make us totally immune. If we do not take care of ourselves, we could face another wave,” Sucre said when asked about the Ómicron BA.5 variant.

He stressed that the cases of Covid-19 are going down, but that we must bear in mind that the BA.5 variant may enter the country in the coming weeks.

Sucre pointed out that this variant is less aggressive than the previous variants, but it is more contagious, which could cause another wave.
