Newmont Corporation reported that he decided to continue postponing the investment decision for the project Yanacocha sulfides located in the district La Morñada and the Bathrooms of the Inca of the Cajamarca region.
It should be noted that, according to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), this is a project that aims 45% gold, 45% copper and 10% silver.
The estimated investment in this project is US $ 2,500 million and will have a useful life of approximately 20 years.
The company reported that the postponement decision responds to the fact that “the most profitable projects to advance at the right time and in the most efficient way in terms of capital” will be prioritized.
“Yanacocha has relevant resources and reserves to operate as a gold and copper mine 1 for decades,” he added and highlighted his commitment to manage the last stage of operations and closing activities in a safe and responsible manner.
As part of that work, the company said it will invest US $ 1.8 billion to build two water treatment plants. In addition, the company indicated that it will continue to be committed to the evaluation of all opportunities in Peru.
