The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), announced – this Friday (22) – more news for the 2025 New Year’s Eve program. In addition to the shows already announced by Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia, Ivete Sangalo – for the first time at the Rio festival – and Anitta, the city will host Xand Avião and the 2024 carnival champion, the Unidos de Viradouro school.
In total, there will be 13 stages spread across the city, two of which are new in Parque Oeste and Parque Realengo, in the West Zone. Copacabana, in the South Zone, hosts the Rio, Samba and Leme stages, which returns this year with a program dedicated to gospel music – which is also new at the party on December 31st. The expectation is that Copacabana will receive up to two million people on the night of the last day of 2024.
According to the mayor, this year’s event will host the largest number of attractions in the history of Rio’s New Year, with 20 attractions still to be announced. “What we want is to welcome visitors, so we are inviting all Rio residents to join the city’s New Year’s Eve parties,” he said in an interview.
Present at the press conference, the president of the Rio Municipal Tourism Company (RioTur), Patrick Côrrea, reinforced that New Year’s Eve will be celebrated not only in Copacabana, but in various parts of the capital. “Last year, several stages around the city brought together five million people, making the turn in Rio, so we want to surpass that mark”, he pointed out.
Fireworks show
Now in 2024, ten rafts will be spread across Copacabana beach for the fireworks display – lasting 12 minutes – from December 31st to January 1st. In 2024, there were 12 stages and 12 ferries spread across the capital, bringing together 2.5 million people on the Copacabana waterfront alone. According to Rio’s city hall, the economic turnover was R$3 billion last New Year’s Eve.
“We want hotels full, the bar sector, restaurants and commerce producing. One of its most important activities in Rio is tourism, people coming to visit [a cidade]this entertainment industry”, said Mayor Eduardo Paes.
“Rio is a city with many offers, many alternatives, therefore, we always want to be encouraging, creating reasons for people to come to Rio de Janeiro, not only its natural beauty, its tourist attractions and its historical sites are not enough. We always want big events and big meetings to happen here” concluded the mayor.
