New Year’s Eve in the city of Rio de Janeiro could generate 3.34 billion, 6% above the value from 2024 to 2025. The study New Year’s Eve in Data It was prepared by the city hall, through the Tourism Company of the Municipality of Rio (Riotur), the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development and the Fundação João Goulart Institute.
It is estimated that more than 5 million people will participate in events spread across the city. Only Copacabana should have half this audience, including locals and tourists.
According to the municipal secretary of Economic Development, Osmar Lima, New Year’s Eve is an established party in the city, which boosts Rio’s economy, attracting tourists from all over.
“It is a fundamental event for Rio, as we have already entered the new year with strong economic activity, second only to Carnival”, says Lima.
The economic movement is based on data from daily invoices from subgroups of services directly impacted by New Year’s Eve, according to the Municipal Finance Department.
“Rio’s New Year’s Eve is much more than the biggest event in the world. The analysis highlights its relevance as a driver of economic activity, with direct effects on sectors such as accommodation, food, transport and services”, says the president of Riotur, Bernardo Fellows.
