The weather analyst Jean Suriel announced this Monday that 2024 will end “with cold temperatures in the Dominican Republic.”
This phenomenon will mark the beginning of 2025 with a fresh atmosphere that will cover the entire national territory.
According to Suriel, in the next 20 days, four polar air masses will impact the Caribbean region, bringing with them a notable drop in temperatures.
Since last night, temperatures began to drop due to the first of these polar masses, which will remain over the country until next Friday morning.

Polar mass calendar
The impact of these cold air masses will extend during the first weeks of the new year:
- First polar mass: From yesterday until Friday, December 29.
- Second polar mass: It will arrive on Monday, January 6.
- Third polar mass: It will affect the northern Caribbean on Friday, January 10.
- Fourth polar mass: It will affect the country from the night of Monday, January 13, lasting several days.
Temperature drop
Minimum temperatures are expected to decrease considerably, especially between 5:00 pm and 10:00 am
This cold pattern will be most noticeable in mountainous and rural areas, while urban areas will also feel significant cooling.
Jean Suriel highlighted that this climatic behavior is atypical for the Caribbean region and urged the population to prepare, especially those in vulnerable situations.
It is recommended to wear warm clothing and take precautions with children and older adults to avoid health problems related to the cold.
