Canadian international midfielder Tajon Buchanan scored the goal that allowed the New England Revolution to beat the Colorado Rapids 1-0 and establish the best record of all time in the United States MLS by reaching 73 points.
Buchanan broke the Rapids’ sizable defensive barrier with a goal in the second half, giving the Revolution the victory they needed to enter the MLS history book squarely.
Supporters’ Shield winners surpassed LAFC’s previous threshold of 72 points from the 2019 season in their penultimate game of the MLS regular season.
The Revolution with one more victory in the last game that they still have to play can reach 76 when on the last day of Decision Day, Sunday, November 7, they face Inter Miami, which is already eliminated from the playoffs after lose this Wednesday 2-1 to Atlanta United.
The victory also further established Bruce Arena’s place in MLS history, leading him to a tie for the most wins by a coach (240) with the late and legendary Sigi Schmid.
The new brand completes another milestone during a historic season for the Revolution, who had already secured their first Supporters’ Shield on October 23, all before even having to play in Week 32.
Now with 33 MLS games played, the Revolution have only lost four games so far this season.
Then, as leaders of the Eastern Conference and the League, the Revolution will reach the MLS Cup Playoffs as the big favorite to be in the final that will be played on December 11.
