On August 31, a new case of femicide was registered in the municipality of Mateare, department of Managua. The victim was Heyling Karina García Vásquez, 32, who died at the hands of her partner José Andrés Sandoval Gálvez, 41. After murdering her, Sandoval stayed drinking liquor next to her body.
According to official information, the man entered the house late at night and, while drunk, began an argument in which Sandoval Gálvez began to attack his partner, causing severe injuries, then squeezed her neck until she died.

Subsequently, the subject continued to drink liquor next to the body of his victim, until dawn. People close to the young woman’s family went to the house where they both lived and when they saw what had happened, they informed the Ciudad Sandino police station. They informed the authorities in the early hours of this first of September.
The femicide was recorded from the second Xiloá gate one block north, in a house located in the Xiloá Forests, in the Mateare municipality. García Vásquez leaves behind a 16-year-old boy and two minors, one of them with a disability. At the time of entering the house, the agents arrested Sandoval, who admitted having been the author of the femicide.
Vásquez becomes the 42nd victim of femicide in Nicaragua, according to the Catholic organization for the Right to Decide so far in 2022. The organization places the northern and southern Caribbean of Nicaragua as the areas where the highest rates are reported. of violence against women.

Although Nicaragua has Law 779, Comprehensive Law against violence against women, femicides have not decreased since its approval. Feminist groups protested when the legal instrument that reduced crime to the private sphere was reformed.
One of the last registered femicides in Nicaragua was that of the young Karen Monserrat Blandón, 21, the victim of a gunshot wound at the hands of her ex-partner, Caleb Rocha Tercero, who took her life while the victim was breastfeeding her six month old baby.
